Vets Nov. 10 ceremony has special meaning for high school senior

Posted

Since the school’s opening Warwick Veterans Memorial High School has hosted an observance on Veterans Day and this year senior Stephanie Racca has taken the ceremony as her senior project.

Because her grandfather, John Cabral, is a World War II veteran, Racca said veterans have always been “near and dear” to her heart. His name even appears on the honor roll of veterans at the high school.

“Veterans deserve to be recognized because they are essential to American history,” Racca said. “They all have stories to tell and something to show from their service that they can share with the community.”

Although the ceremony has remained the same over the years with several reading, and songs as well as a wreath lying, Racca is incorporating a brief video of the high school’s history as it concerns recognizing the community’s veterans.

“Honoring and caring for the community’s veterans is part of the culture of this school,” she said. “I’m hoping for a good turnout.”

The Warwick Veterans Memorial High School Veterans Day Observance and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be hosted at the high school on Tuesday, November 10, beginning at 10 a.m. For more information or to RSVP as a veteran contact Racca at 2016-stephanie.racca@warwickschools.org.
