Vets lacrosse falls to 'Bolts

The Warwick Vets girls’ lacrosse team kept it close for a little while against Cranston East on Thursday, but in the end the ’Bolts simply had too much.

Vets lost 15-7, thanks to a 5-1 burst over the game’s final 15 minutes by East. The ’Canes trailed 8-4 at halftime and were within 10-6 in the second half before the ’Bolts caught fire and pulled away.

Jenna Fontaine had three goals for Vets, while Emily Almonte, Nicole Luiz and Kara McCrudden each added one. Almonte also had two assists, Luiz had one and Casey Bennett had another. In net, Katelen Pick made 19 saves.

For East, Caroline Lema led the way with four goals, while Amanda Way had three and Cassandra Maos and Hannah Meharg each had two.

Vets fell to 1-10 in Division II-Central, while East improved to 10-2. The ’Canes next game will be today at unbeaten Lincoln School at 4 p.m. They’ll finish out the season at Lincoln High School on Thursday, also at 4.
