Warwick Vets placed third in the Medium Schools Division and eighth overall at the state cheerleading competition on Saturday at the Providence Career & Technical Academy. Toll Gate was fifth among Large Schools, while Pilgrim took seventh in Medium Schools.

The Hurricanes tallied 81.75 points, just back of Medium Schools champion North Providence and runner-up Tolman. It was the eighth-best score of the day across all divisions, which gave Vets its second top-10 finish in the last three years and its best finish since a fifth-place performance in 2010.

Toll Gate finished with a 72.5, good for fifth in the Large Schools competition. The Titans finished 17th overall.

Pilgrim scored a 68.625, which ranked them seventh in Medium Schools and 19th in the overall competition.

Portsmouth won the Large Schools championship and the overall state title. North Providence and Narragansett were the other division champions. (Warwick Beacon photos by Jerry Silberman / risportsphoto.com)
