The Warwick Vets field hockey team had higher expectations than ever heading into this season, and so far the ’Canes have met them with flying colors. On Thursday, they had their biggest win yet.
Vets improved to 5-0 in Division II-South with a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten South Kingstown. The Rebels fell to 3-1-1.
Savannah Hersey scored the game-winner against South Kingstown, finding the back of the goal with 2:20 to play in the second half to break a 1-1 deadlock. The goal was Hersey’s sixth of the season, and that, combined with her six assists, give her 18 points on the year.

Vets’ five wins are more than it had all of last year, when it went 4-6-3.
