Vienna Boys Choir to perform holiday show at Park Theatre

For nearly 100 years, the Vienna Boys Choir has been known across the globe for their performances of major choral and symphonic works. On Thursday, Dec. 6, Rhode Islanders will have an opportunity to see the award-winning group during a special holiday performance for people and families of all ages at the Park Theatre in Cranston.

Undoubtedly the most famous boys’ choir in the world, the Vienna Boys Choir is made up of 100 treble and alto choristers between the ages of 10 and 14, divided into four touring choirs. Each group spends between nine and 11 weeks of the school year on tour. In total, the groups perform nearly 300 concerts each year before more than half a million people – visiting virtually every continent.

Together with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the men of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, the Vienna Boys Choir maintains the tradition of the imperial musicians. As Hofmusikkapelle (Chapel Imperial), they provide the music for the Sunday Mass in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel, as they have done since 1498.

Having contributed to a number of soundtracks for major motion pictures in the United States, Japan and Europe, now is your chance to see the choir that has worked with composers including Mozart, Bruckner, Heinrich Isaac, Caldara and others during its rich history.

The Vienna Boys Choir will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6. Tickets are priced at $35, $45 and $55, and are currently on sale. Discounts are available for seniors, groups and children by calling the Box Office directly at 467-7275. Tickets may also be purchased through the Theatre’s secure website: www.ParkTheatreRI.com. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston. Free parking is available for all shows.
