Linda Zabbo, RN, BSN, surrounded by her family and VNA of Care New England colleagues, accepted the Giving Excellence Meaning (GEM) Award from Nurse.com at a gala event in Boston on May 13. Awardees were selected by an all-nurse panel of judges from an impressive group of nominees from throughout New England. Zabbo was recognized as the RN who best exemplifies outstanding clinical knowledge and nursing expertise in caring for patients in settings outside the hospital in the Home, Community and Ambulatory Care category. As the Telemonitoring and Cardiac Care Coordinator at VNA of Care New England, Linda is the voice behind the telephone for most of the patients that she helps care for. She is often the first person to know when a patient is experiencing a change in their condition; thanks to the vital signs they send her each day via the telemonitoring unit. Recently, a patient wrote on their satisfaction survey, “I have never met Linda personally. I have only spoken with her over the phone. I feel as if I have known her forever. She is so helpful and kind, always available to answer my questions and never rushes me. I don’t know what I would do without her.” Nancy Roberts, president and CEO of VNA of Care New England said, “Linda possesses a unique combination of both leadership and clinical skills and because of this, has earned the respect of her colleagues. Linda has impacted the lives of thousands of individuals in need throughout her 30-year nursing career while raising her own family.”
