Volunteers are needed to support a Team Depot project at YWCA Rhode Island's Gateway to Independence Transitional Housing Facility on September 15 and 16. A variety of hands-on volunteer opportunities (painting, flooring, etc.) will be available for volunteers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

YWCA Rhode Island's Gateway to Independence is the largest VA supported veterans transitional housing program in the state for individuals who are homeless due to PTSD, substance abuse, depression and other factors, serving over an average of 100 individuals annually. Gateway to Independence is an alcohol and drug-free residential transitional program located in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence. Veterans reside in YWCA owned properties for up to 24 months and are provided case management services to help them identify and treat the issues that caused their homelessness.

The goals of the program are to assist the veteran with residential stability, increase their skill levels and/or income, and obtain greater self-determination. YWCA personnel staff the program 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

Since 2011, The Home Depot Foundation has invested more than $160 million to provide safe housing to veterans, and along with the help of Team Depot volunteers, has improved more than 26,700 homes for veterans.

For more information or to sign up to volunteer, contact Col. Robert Germani Jr. (ret.) at 351-2279.
