(Faith-based family drama)

In a week filled with R and PG-13 rated movies, Providence Place and Seekonk 6 Showcases have introduced a NR (no rating, but certainly G or PG) faith-based movie that makes no excuses for its Christian messages of faith, hope, love and prayer. Anyone reading the title and looking for an action movie is in for a surprise, as the only action comes from within, involving a strong faith to save a failing marriage.

The “War Room” of the title turns out to be an empty closet where two women turn to pray. It goes without saying that this isn’t a movie for everyone, although religious leaders would certainly hope that it was.

While we humbly have avoided giving it a rating, the acting is quite good and the messages are very strong and clear.

We are introduced to an upper middle class African-American family with one very sweet daughter. Husband and wife are fighting over money, and the wife is concerned about her husband’s infidelity. Elizabeth is a real estate agent trying to sell an old lady’s home. The lady senses that Elizabeth is having problems and moves right in, showing her how prayer can change her life.

The movie goes on a bit too long (two hours) before forgiveness, reconciliation and redemption occurs. The trailers before the film include five upcoming faith-based movies: “90 Minutes in Heaven,” “Captive,” “Freeheld,” one about the Indian girl Malala, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, and “The Greatest Manhunt,” a biblical tale of Christ’s resurrection.
