Last Thursday, more than 1,000 students participated in Bishop Hendricken High School’s annual Hunger Walk, which had check-in stations such as this one on West Shore Road. The fundraiser brought in more than $17,000 for local, national and international hunger-related causes, with each student bringing in a minimum of $20 to participate. Almost 300 students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades at St. Kevin’s School also participated, walking a shorter course around St. Kevin’s. A Hendricken tradition for over 40 years, the students are to report to school by 8 a.m., prepared to walk the seven-mile course throughout Hoxsie, Conimicut and Oakland Beach. The event included a Hunger Walk prayer service, held for the first time at St. Kevin’s Church with Hendricken chaplain Rev. Christopher Murphy and St. Kevin chaplain Rev. Robert Marciano (a Hendricken alum) leading the service.
