Walter F. “Homer” Holmes, Jr., 82, passed away January 6, 2014 at RI Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mildred L. (Walker) Holmes for 61 years.
He was a son of the late Walter F., Sr. and Mildred E. (Arnold) Holmes. Mr. Holmes was a toolmaker and foreman at RI Tool Co. for 45 years before retiring. He was a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the First Congregational Church of Warwick. Mr. Holmes enjoyed fishing with his late cousin, Mort Thatcher.
He is also survived by two sons, Walter F. Holmes, III of Rehoboth, Massachusetts and Jeffrey R. Holmes of Warwick; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was the brother of the late Gerald and Richard Holmes.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday, January 9, from 3-7 p.m. followed by a service at 7 p.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Private burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park.
