ARMED ROBBERY

On Aug. 11 at 8:20 p.m., the Warwick Police Department received a call via 911 reporting that a white male subject displayed a handgun, demanding money at the Cilantro Mexican Grill, 1959 Post Road. The suspect left the establishment on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. An extensive area search was conducted by members of the Warwick Police Department to include a K-9 officer. Video surveillance captured an image of the suspect, who was described as being a white male, 6’-6’2” tall, in his mid to late 20s, with blonde or brown hair wearing a long sleeve gray shirt and white shorts.

Anyone with additional information should contact the Warwick Police Department Detective Division at 468-4200 or Detective Pat McGaffigan at 468-4253.

LARCENY

On Aug. 4 at 4 p.m., Detective Shaun Turcotte was working uniformed call back and responded to Spring Green Road for the report of a larceny from a shed.

Upon arrival, Turcotte met with the reporting party, who said he last checked his shed on July 30 and upon checking it on Aug. 4, found that the front metal locking latch had been pried off with the lock still in the locked position. He said the following items had been removed from the shed: Toro weed trimmer/edger with four attachments; 28” Ariens snow blower; 8-gallon Husky air compressor; 28” Craftsman walk behind lawn mower; Toro gas power washer; Honda portable gas generator; and Stihl chainsaw.

At the time of the report, the man was not able to provide any serial numbers or identification for the property. However, he advised he would gather that information and provide it to Turcotte in the near future. The investigation is ongoing.

WARRANT

On Aug. 5 at 4:32 p.m., Officer Matthew Higgins was on patrol in a marked cruiser in the area of Motel 6 at 20 Jefferson Boulevard when he observed a vehicle exiting the parking lot that did not appear to have a registration plate on the vehicle. Higgins initiated a stop of the vehicle, which pulled into the parking lot of the Mobil gas station at 15 Jefferson Blvd. Higgins said he was able to see a temporary tag taped inside the rear window, which had expired on July 31.

Upon making contact with the operator, she said she did not have her driver’s license on her, but she provided her license number and her name and date of birth, identifying herself as Karima Thompson, 40. Upon running checks on Thompson, Hissings said it was found that she had an active bench warrant.

After additional officers arrived on scene, Thompson was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody. She was transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where she was issued a violation for the expired temporary registration. Thompson, of 7 Dutton Street, Providence, was booked and processed for the warrant, which was removed, and subsequently transported to women’s intake.

Officers remained on scene to await the arrival of a tow for Thompson’s vehicle, as it was not actively registered.

SANTA SHOPLIFTING

On Aug. 7 at 5:40 p.m., Officers Mitchel Voyer and Matthew Higgins responded to Macy’s at 400 Bald Hill Road for the report that loss prevention had two shoplifters in custody.

Upon arrival, officers met with a loss prevention agent, who said he observed one adult female, identified as Daniela M. Pena, 25, of 25A Eagle Run, East Greenwich, and one adult male, identified as Kaylen C. Santa, 23, of 150 Calla Street, Providence, exiting the elevator onto the first floor and both of them had numerous pieces of merchandise on their persons. He said Santa was also carrying a large Macy’s shopping bag. The two headed for the dresses fitting room and both entered the same stall.

The assistant asset protection manager then went to the fitting room area, where she heard sensors being cut off of the merchandise. After some time had passed, both subjects exited the fitting room and the shopping bag appeared larger. It should be noted at this time Santa was carrying the shopping bag. After inspecting the fitting room, the asset protection manager found there were no items left in that area and Santa had discarded the rest of the clothing on the display. Upon inspecting the pile of discarded clothing, numerous sensors were discovered cut off and two clothing items were damaged as a result of trying to take sensors off.

Santa and Pena then allegedly exited the store with the concealed merchandise in the shopping bag, which was carried by Santa out of the store. He then passed it off to Pena, who continued out to the parking lot, where the pair was stopped by loss prevention and escorted back inside, where 14 articles of clothing were recovered along with cutting pliers, which was on Santa’s person.

Santa and Pena were taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where they were processed. Santa admitted to cutting off the security devices and that two articles of clothing were damaged in the process. Pena said Santa was the one cutting off the devices.

Pena was charged with one count of shoplifting and was released with a District Court summons. Voyer said it was discovered that Santa was a bail violator and he was held for the Attorney General’s office. He was charged with one count of misdemeanor shoplifting, one count of vandalism, and one count of unlawful use and/or removal of theft detection devices.

MARIJUANA

On Aug. 5 at 1:49 a.m., Officer Gregory Accinno was on routine patrol of Warwick Avenue, when he observed a black 2001 BMW 325I bearing R.I. registration with a rear taillight out. The vehicle also crossed over the fog line into the breakdown lane twice while traveling northbound on Warwick Ave. Accinno said he then conducted a motor vehicle stop.

Accinno met with the operator, who was identified as Travone J. Green, 20, of 293 Vermont Avenue, Providence, and advised him of the reason for the stop. When Green opened up his glove box to retrieve his registration and insurance, Accinno said he noticed a clear glass jar containing a green leafy substance, which he believed to be marijuana. Green was asked if he has a marijuana card, to which he said, “No, I don’t.”

The suspected marijuana was seized and Green was issued a summons for possession of marijuana 1 ounce or less, 18 years or older, with a mandatory Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal court date. He was also issued a warning for the rear taillight and the laned roadway violation.

Upon arrival to Warwick Police headquarters, Accinno field-tested the suspected marijuana, which tested positive. The marijuana was then entered into property and placed into the BCI mailbox as evidence.
