As the month of July draws to a close, the Warwick Public library is scheduled to wrap up two month-long programs before announcing new events for August. There is still one week left to enjoy the remainder of both free programs.
Discover the Ocean State’s murderous past at “Murder in Rhode Island: A Historic True Crime Series” presented by Rhode Island author and journalist Kelly Sullivan Pezza.
Pezza has reported for southern Rhode Island newspapers for over 17 years and has written hundreds of articles and several books on historic true crime and unsolved mysteries in the Ocean State.
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, learn the facts of the unsolved killing of wealthy Charlestown rum-runner Danny Walsh, who disappeared and whose body has never been found.
The second event celebrates Journalist July at the library. Inside Scoop: A Journalism Film Series offers a reporter’s take on two definitive films about journalists and their work. Join Steve Starger a journalist, editor, author, playwright, arts columnist, and freelance writer in attending these two special film viewings. He has written for the Hartford Courant, Hartford Times, Hartford Business Journal, Art New England magazine and Cashbox magazine.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23, take in Veronica Guerin (2003), starring Cate Blanchett and Gerard McSorley, and explore the dangers of crime reporting.
On Thursday, July 30 at 7 p.m., see Capote (2005), starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener, and learn the origins of the non-fiction crime novel. The previous movies for this program were All the Presidents Men (1976) and Good Night, and Good Luck (2005).
The notable events happening at the library in August include the City of Warwick Summer Concert Series and a reprise presentation of the 2015 Rhode Island International Film Festival.
