CONVERTERS TAKEN
Det. Edmund Pierce reported the theft of two catalytic converters from two trucks on Kenyon Avenue overnight on Aug. 14. Pierce said he met with one of two brothers who had their trucks vandalized and found a Sawzall blade that was left behind. Pierce reported that the catalytic converters were worth $300 each. No suspect or witnesses.

SHOPLIFTING
A Providence woman was charged with being a habitual offender after she was arrested at Kohl’s in the Rhode Island Mall on Aug. 22. Security at the store called police about a shoplifting in progress and Officers Stephen Major and Brian Murray waited outside while loss prevention agents in the store reported on the progress of two women who were acting in a suspicious manner in the store. They told police they concealed a number of items in their bag and were leaving the store without paying for the goods. Major said they stopped the woman outside and took them back inside where they recovered $284.99 worth of merchandise from the bag they carried. Angela Braxton, 41, of 160 Broad St. was charged with felony shoplifting after her record revealed three prior shoplifting convictions. She was held as a probation violator. The other woman, identified as Braxton’s 23-year-old daughter, was not charged.
A West Warwick woman was charged with shoplifting and later transported to the ACI on Aug. 23 after security at the Ocean State Job Lot store on West Shore Road told police she had just left and ran off through the woods behind the store and was being followed by a Job Lot employee. Officer Manuel Pacheco said he found them at the corner of Long View and Long Street and took the woman into custody. The employee told police the woman walked out of the store with an unpaid for sheet set in a Bed, Bath and Beyond bag that she dropped when she was confronted outside and ran into the woods. The store recovered the bag with the sheet set and a couple of packages of plastic bags worth about $25 in all. Pacheco said he learned that Jerri L. Mountain, 54, of 91 West Warwick Ave. had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in District Court and a second one from Florida.
A Warwick woman was arrested and charged with being a habitual offender on Aug. 20 after security at Kohl’s told police she concealed two shirts and a purse in her own pocketbook and walked out of the store without paying for the goods. Marilyn Elizabeth Hyndman, 48, of 5300 Post Rd. was charged with felony shoplifting and held for arraignment.
Another Warwick woman was charged with shoplifting on Aug. 21 after loss prevention agents at the Wal-Mart store on Post Road told police she concealed a number of items in her purse before paying for some items in her car and not paying for the items in her purse before leaving the store. Security told police they found 22 small items in her purse, worth $131.50, that had not been paid for. Victoria Mitchell, 35, of 212 Sandy Ln. was later released with a summons for District Court.

DUSTER BUST
Officer Albert Marano said he was dispatched to the Ocean State Job Lot on West Shore Road around 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 22 for a shoplifting and assault suspect being detained there. Employees at the store told Marano they saw the man take three cans of “Blow Off” computer keyboard cleaner and conceal them in his pants before an employee confronted him outside and he pushed her. A second employee said he saw his co-worker being pushed and ran to assist her. He said he was trying to talk the man into calming down and coming back into the store when the suspect bit him on the finger. He was led back inside to await police. Marano noted that “Blow Off” and similar products were known for being inhaled to get a species of “high.” He said Paul F. Mancini III, of 31 Melbourne Rd. in Warwick, admitted he used the duster fumes to get high, among other drugs, and that was why he was stealing it. Marano said he learned that Mancini also had two warrants outstanding for failure to appear in District Court. He was charged for shoplifting and assault and held for arraignment.

VANDALS
Two neighbors on Wolfstone Road told police someone keyed their vehicles while they were parked in their respective driveways overnight on Aug. 12. One said he went out to his car that morning and found his truck had been “keyed” on both sides and the tailgate. His neighbor said his neighbor mentioned his truck was keyed so he went to look at his own vehicle and it also was scratched on the side, back and fender. No suspects or witnesses.
A Coventry man told police he was in Fat Belly’s Pub on Lambert Lind Highway around 10 p.m. on Aug. 12 when someone came into the pub and told him the passenger side window on his car was smashed. No witnesses.
A Smithfield man told police he returned to his boat at the Dickerson Brothers Marina on Arnold Neck Road and discovered that a tinted Plexiglas door to his boat’s cabin was broken. He said nothing was missing from the boat but it would cost around $500 to replace the door. No suspects.

DWI
Officer Gregory Johnson reported he was on West Shore Road around 11:20 p.m. on Aug. 13 when someone outside the Rocky Point Pub flagged him down. The man told him the driver of a blue Hyundai was trying to drive away after hitting the man’s car in the parking lot. Johnson said the man they were detaining was swaying back and forth and complaining that the other car was improperly parked and that’s why it got hit but Johnson said it was apparent that the driver was under the influence and he gave the man a field sobriety test and the man failed it. He said Robert A. Legasse, 49, of 109 Horseneck Rd. in Warwick was taken to headquarters where he blew a .167 and a .163 blood alcohol content on the breath test. He was charged with DWI, first offense, and later released to a sober adult.
