Police are releasing new information about the May 17th, 2013 murder of John “Jack” Fay. Fay was killed while jogging on the bike path at Warwick City Park. The Warwick Police recovered a sledge hammer near the scene of the crime and are looking for information from anyone who may recognize it. Detectives have continued to work on this investigation and are asking for your help in identifying this sledge hammer. The sledge hammer is unique, in that it has a handle which has been custom made and the shape of the head of the hammer is unique as well. The sledge hammer is a 2.5lb sledge, 10” in length with a distinctive handle which may have had red on it at one time. Police believe that this sledge hammer is an old tool that might have been taken from someone’s home or toolbox.

Police are asking that anyone who may have information regarding the hammer or any other information on this case to call Warwick Detective Sergeant Mark Canning at 401-468-4236 or the anonymous TIP line at 401-732-TIPS (401-732-8477).

bet a profiler could tell you the age range, whether it was premeditated, how many perps, how the perp(s) arrived at the scene, whether they did this before or will do it again, whether the perp is local to the area. you'd be surprised.

This is really spooky...I used to walk in the park and I have a family member who still does with the dogs...harmless dogs that would lick an attacker...or maybe not. I wonder why this wasn't released earlier...maybe because they were trying to conceal the evidence....hoping someone would mention a sledge hammer.

But it seems like a very specialized hammer..which by analysis...could find out where it was fabricated? Who the hell would want to attack a 66 year old man? Usually a motive for murder...or has this world just become so sick that no motive is needed for someone's rage attack? Its horrible to think someone could get away with MURDER. We have to catch this person.
