Warwick joins in ‘Click it or ticket’ mobilization

Posted

The Warwick Police Department have joined state and local law enforcement officers as well as state highway safety advocates for a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization, now through March 30. The Office of Highway Safety and RIDOT are providing funds for this campaign.

During the mobilization, officers will be ticketing motorists who fail to wear their seat belts, both day and night.

With proper seat belt use, research shows that the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants is reduced by 45 percent, and the risk of moderate to serious injury is reduced by 50 percent.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), seat belts saved more than 12,500 lives nationwide in 2010.

Nationally in 2010, 51 percent of the 22,187 passenger vehicle occupants who were killed in motor vehicle crashes were not wearing seat belts at the time of their fatal crashes.

“The Warwick Police Department is strongly supporting the Click It Or Ticket mobilization from March 24 to 30,” said Lieutenant Michael Gilbert. “Our officers will be out in force to remind drivers and occupants to always wear their seat belts- both day and night.”

WHY DO WE NEED POLICE TO TICKET GROWN MEN AND WOMEN WHO CHOOSE NOT TO WEAR A SEATBELT. IT IS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS.

Because you ADULTS who don't wear seat belts aren't smart enough, and we continually have to pry your face and brains off the dashboard. Smarten up and wear it. Why not say the hell with it, " why do we need police to arrest us for drinking and driving, we are grown men and women that choose to do this . It's none of their business". Great idea!!!!

Except SteveD......my not wearing my seatbelt does you no harm. Mind your own business. This is the nanny state at its best. We are supposed to be a free country. Are there seatbelts on motorcycles?

By the way, every year there is a study done on cops and it shows over 60% of them don't wear their seatbelts. Maybe you should begin your enforcement there.
