A Warwick man has been charged after allegedly making threats against Rhode Island State Police personnel on Twitter.

Corey Coelho, 20, of 5 Brook Spring Drive, was arrested without incident on March 27 on a charge of making threats to public officials. He was arraigned at the Wickford Barracks and released on personal recognizance pending a May appearance in Third Division District Court.

According to a press release, State Police became aware of the threats to harm law enforcement personnel on March 27. The threats were posted to the State Police Twitter account and the suspect’s own public account, the release states. Coelho was identified based on an investigation by detectives from the Computer Crimes Unit.

Coelho was reportedly angry following a traffic stop on Route 95 the previous day.

“We take any threat towards our troopers seriously,” State Police Col. Steven G. O’Donnell stated through the press release. “We will track those who feel the need to enter into this type of discourse and hold them accountable.”
