Warwick native Locke signs with Hobart LAX

Portsmouth Abbey School’s William Locke, a senior from Warwick, has committed to play lacrosse at Hobart and William Smith Colleges beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

Locke has been first team All-League in the Eastern Independent League (EIL) since his freshman year and was first team All-State for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. A long-stick midfielder and starter since his freshman year, he was a key player on the Ravens’ 2013 EIL Championship team that finished 7-0 in league play (12-3 overall). The Ravens have won five EIL Championships since joining the league in 2008.

“Will is a three-sport athlete as well as captain of the boys’ lacrosse team,” said Al Brown, Portsmouth Abbey director of athletics and head boys’ lacrosse coach. “He is a true competitor, has become a real leader, and has the unique ability to generate offense as a defender, scoring 18 goals last season as a junior. Will has the skill and athleticism to be a very good defender at the Division I level. We are proud of his accomplishments.”

Hobart went 6-8 in 2013, including 3-3 in its final season in the ECAC. The Statesmen will play in the Northeast Conference for men’s lacrosse beginning in 2014.
