Warwick natives having early impact on the pitch

School is back in session, and a quartet of Warwick natives are proving to be a handful on the pitches of New England, playing key roles in early-season victories for their respective teams.

Looking to build on a 14-goal campaign in 2012, Pilgrim alumna Briana Tomaselli has been entrusted with the captaincy at Mount Ida, who are thin on experience but long on effort and determination.

The ex-Patriot opened her account for the season in a 2-0 win against Newbury on Sept. 4, scoring the insurance marker in the Mustangs’ first victory on the season.

Warwick Vets graduate Lindsey Garvey opened the scoring for Emmanuel in the Saints’ 3-2 triumph over Fitchburg State in early September, scoring off a corner in the contest’s 18th minute.

Like Tomaselli, Garvey has been selected as a captain this autumn, but is sharing leadership duties with two other teammates.

UMass-Dartmouth’s Talia D’Ambruoso has seen significant playing time for the Corsairs early in 2013, with the former Pilgrim standout starting three of the four matches to date.

D’Ambruoso notched her first goal at the collegiate level on Sept. 4, scoring the first UMass-Dartmouth goal in a 4-0 blanking of Salve Regina.

Last but not least, Kelsey Imondi, who is now plying her trade at Assumption, helped the Greyhounds to lift the season-opening Catholic Cup two weeks ago after a 2-1 overtime win over Stonehill in the final.

The Toll Gate alum made her mark in the semifinal contest versus Saint Michael’s, assisting on the opening goal of the match in the 14th minute of Assumption’s 2-0 triumph over the Purple Knights.

Imondi was also selected to the all-tournament team as one of four Greyhound players to be honored by the panel.
