The Community Players continue their 92nd season with Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s chilling musical thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Set in 1846 London, it’s the dark tale of barber Benjamin Barker, who was framed and unjustly jailed by a lecherous judge who lured and ravaged his beautiful, young wife. Now 15 years later, Barker returns and takes the name Sweeney Todd and seeks revenge by systematically slicing people’s throats with a razor, while his partner Mrs. Lovett disposes of the bodies by baking them into meat pies. It is the winner of the 1979 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Directed by Warwick resident Brian Mulvey, Sweeney Todd will be presented April 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28 at Jenks Auditorium, Division St., Pawtucket (across from McCoy Stadium). Other West Bay residents in the cast include Steve Pacheco (Warwick), Kara Marziali and Joe Luca (Cranston) and Ryan Bedisee (Johnston). Curtain is at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students through high school. Order tickets online at www.thecommunityplayers.org or call 726-6860.
