The New England High School Track Championships were held on Saturday at Willow Park in New Britain, Conn. and several Warwick competitors left their mark.
On the boys’ side, Hendricken’s 4x100 relay team led the way with a fourth-place finish. Its 4x400 team also took 12th, while its 4x800 team finished 19th.
In the 3200, Colin Tierney finished in eighth place, Connor Doyle finished in 10th place and Tyler Henseler finished in 13th.
Pilgrim’s Peter Golish had the best showing from the public schools, finishing in 15th in the discus. The Pats’ Dereck Daluz was 19th in the 200 while Steve Croft was 19th in the 400.
On the girls’ side, Pilgrim’s Melanie Brunelle had Warwick’s top finish with an 11th-place showing in the triple jump. Her teammate Becca O’Donnell finished in 23rd in the same event, while Warwick Vets’ Hunter Bastan grabbed a 27th-place finish.
O’Donnell also finished in 12th in the long jump. Pilgrim’s Destinee Barrette took home 30th in the shot put.
Rhode Island had plenty of strong showings from other schools as well, as the Barrington 4x800 team of Julia Zitzman, Julianna Portelli, Abby Livingston and Megan Vern-Crist win the event and set a new meet record with their team of 9:05.49.
Hope sophomore Quashira McIntosh, who won both the 100 and 200 at the state meet, won the 200 at New Englands, and finished second in the 100.
