The 6th Annual Waterfront Reggae Festival, to take place on Saturday, August 8 rain or shine from 12 noon to 10 p.m. at its new waterfront location at India Point Park in Providence, promises a full day and night of positive island vibrations led by Grammy award winning reggae band Steel Pulse, along with Third World, Yellowman (recently added to line-up in place of Barrington Levy, who is now unable to perform), Mighty Mystic, High Hopes Band, The Copacetics and ambient sounds between sets from Omega Sound’s DJ Realm, WRIU’s Blademan and DJ Matik.

The flexible general admission tickets, which allow concert attendees to come and go throughout the 10-hour reggae party, are $40 in advance through Friday, August 7 and $50 the day of the festival. Kids under 12 are free with a paying adult. For the ultimate reggae fan who is 21 years or older, an exclusive Rocksteady Pass is available for $80 in limited quantities, which includes one all-day admission, access to a reserved dockside lounge, cocktail service and a complimentary beverage. All tickets can be purchased online at www.riwaterfrontevents.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.

In addition to the music, the festival will feature the Reggae Pit with authentic Jamaican food options, including everything from jerk chicken, meat pies, curry goat and snapper fish, while multiple bars will offer Red Stripe, other cold brews and festive island cocktails. For the shoppers in the crowd, an Artisan Marketplace of vendors will sell African and Caribbean collectibles, wearables, smoking accessories and body art. The younger reggae fans will also enjoy Mr. Twister, who will make balloon creations for kids of all ages from 1-6 p.m.

“We are thrilled this reggae festival, now in its sixth year, has found a new waterfront home in Providence,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, president and CEO of Waterfront Productions. “With Steel Pulse, Third World and Yellowman, we are featuring some of the biggest influencers of reggae-based music over the last 40 year.” Palmieri added that it is a standing room/festival style event so attendees are welcome to bring a blanket or low chair but no coolers or large bags will be allowed in due to safety reasons.
