Toll Gate senior Samantha Veltre is the winner of the Wave Federal Credit Union 2016 Donald R. Staley Memorial Scholarship award. This year’s business scholarship award in the amount of $1,000 was presented at Toll Gate High School’s Honors Night on May 18 by the credit union’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, David Dupere. Wave Federal Credit Union established the business scholarship program in 2011 to recognize the scholastic achievements of graduating students pursuing a business or mathematics degree at any accredited college or university. In 2014 the credit union established the Donald R. Staley Memorial Scholarship for Toll Gate High School Students to commemorate his contributions as an assistant principal at Toll Gate High School for 12 years, a math educator and principal at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School for 23 years and assistant superintendent of the Warwick Public School District for five years. He also served as board chairman of the Warwick Municipal Employees/Anchor Federal Credit Union and a Director of Wave Federal Credit Union, which encompassed over 20 years of service. In honor of Mr. Staley’s contributions, David Dupere, Wave Executive VP and COO, said that the credit union recognized Samantha Veltre for her outstanding achievements in personal finance and business education and in successfully completing the CU4 Reality Financial Literacy Program and Fair that is sponsored annually by the credit union.
