To the Editor:

Rhode Island needs new leadership and fresh ideas to repair our economy and get back on track. We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, and too many Rhode Islanders are struggling to make ends meet. As someone who loves Rhode Island, it’s frustrating to see insider politics and mismanagement hold us back. We need a clean break from these tired old politics, and a focus on new ideas to get our economy back on track.

I’m running for Treasurer because that office can and must do more to be an engine for economic growth and job creation. My Blueprint for Rhode Island is a plan to use the Treasurer’s office to get our economy growing again and build a foundation for long-term prosperity.

I will work to rebuild our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools, putting people back to work and increasing our state’s ability to compete in the 21st-century economy. I will invest more of the pension fund in Rhode Island businesses, supporting our state’s many talented entrepreneurs and putting people back to work. These new and innovative proposals, not more of the same, are what our state desperately needs.

As Treasurer, I will fight for hardworking Rhode Islanders. In my career as an investment professional, I took on the big Wall Street banks, and fought to hold them accountable for their lending practices. I will lead the charge against predatory lenders and other financial services that prey on our state’s most vulnerable and gouge hard-working Rhode Islanders. I will work with local banks and credit unions to provide low-cost financial alternatives to create a financial system that is accessible to all.

Finally, I will use my experience as a successful investment professional to bring a steady hand to our state’s finances and ensure responsible oversight of our pension system, which has been mismanaged by statehouse insiders for too long. The teachers, firefighters, and thousands of other state employees who serve their community every day deserve the dignity of a secure retirement.

I love my home state, and I am confident in our ability to turn things around and get on track to a brighter future, but nothing is going to change if we keep sending the same insiders back to the state house. As Treasurer, I promise that my number one priority will always be to get Rhode Island back to work. It is with this in mind that I humbly ask for your vote on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Candidate for Treasurer
