Warwick police have charged John Chiellini, 29, of West Warwick, in a gas station robbery Sunday morning.
Warwick Police said a white male entered at the Mobil station at 1776 Post Road around 11:45 a.m. and showed a weapon tucked into the waistband of his pants and took an undisclosed quantity of cash and fled in a white van.
“We put a bulletin out to surrounding communities to look for a white van,” said Lt. David DeAngelis.
Shortly after noon, Providence police stopped the vehicle near Valley Street in that city. There was no weapon on Chiellini’s person at the time. Warwick police brought the suspect to Warwick and the van was towed to Warwick where it was impounded while they sought a search warrant for the van. DeAngelis said they expected to conduct the search by yesterday afternoon.
“We want to look for the weapon and for anything else that might be related to the incident,” said Lt. David DeAngelis.
Chiellini will be charged with one count of first-degree robbery. He is being held at the ACI until his arraignment in Third District Court on Tuesday.
