The Warwick Vets girls' lacrosse team saw its season come to a close at Wheeler Farm on Thursday, losing 23-12 to the Warriors in the quarterfinal round of the Division II playoffs.
The eight-seeded 'Canes trailed top-seeded Wheeler only 13-8 at halftime, but a big second half by the Warriors lifted them to the victory.
The loss marked the second consecutive season that Vets has captured the No. 8 seed in the playoffs and been eliminated by the top seed in the quarterfinals.
Casey Bennett had four goals and an assist to lead Vets, while Emily Almonte, Ricki Beaufort and Savannah Hersey each had two goals. Jenna Fontaine had a goal as well, and Katelen Pick made nine saves in net.
Lily Foukes scored 11 goals for Wheeler.
Still, the 'Canes' 4-7 record this year was its best since 2011. Wheeler advanced to the semifinals, which are scheduled for today.
