When you need some clams

Warwick quahogger Jody King gave Senator Sheldon White and his wife, Sandra, a tour of the upper bay near Warwick Neck and a chance to try their hand at quahogging Monday. The senator’s office inquired about the opportunity to get a close perspective of the shellfishing industry after reading about King and the Quahog Jamboree hosted by the Warwick Library earlier this year. Whitehouse said he quickly learned he “was digging a hole,” rather than raking on his initial attempt. He said he also learned that the transplant program is working and that the combined storm water overflow project (CSO) installed by the Narragansett Bay Commission has “worked big time.” King said there are about 500 licensed shellfishermen in Rhode Island. At one time, he said, there were about 2,000. (Warwick Beacon photos)

Both Sheldie and Sandra look about as ready to go quahogging5 as a fish does to ride a bicycle.
