To the Editor:
This letter is in regards to an article that was in the Providence Journal on March 25, 2013. The article stated that 1 in 5 children is living with parents where either one parent is unemployed or underemployed. This is unreal; the national average is 1 in 6 children. These figures are almost as bad as the unemployment figures for the state compared to the national average.
I am at a loss for words; I can’t explain how disappointed I am with this state’s government. The state government is actually wasting their time trying to determine if the state’s appetizer should be calamari. There are bigger and more important things that the state government needs to be concerned with. What about addressing the unemployed or the underemployed? It is sad that 1 in 5 children are in a situation like that and the state is deciding on an official appetizer. The state should be concentrating on creating jobs and trying to occupy some of the vacant buildings in the city of Providence. Mainly, the most recent one, “Superman Building,” which was occupied by Bank of America.
It just seems senseless for the state government to be concerned with something so silly when there are so many things to be concerned with. I don’t have all of the answers for this state’s problems, but I am quite sure we don’t need to waste taxpayers’ dollars figuring out the official state appetizer.
