Where careers take off

More than 750 students from schools across the state turned out for the 8th annual Rhode Island Aviation Education Exposition held Thursday at Green Airport. During the morning-long event, students got to tour various aircraft, including a visit to a cockpit as well as hear presentations on career opportunities in the aviation industry and related fields. Institutions of higher learning, including Johnson & Wales University, New England Institute of Technology, Bridgewater State University and the National Aviation Academy, were also represented. “If we motivate them to go to college, that’s half of it,” said Roger Knight of Fed-Ex, pictured, who has worked on the expo since it started. Hangars were transformed into lecture halls where the students got to hear state and agency representatives, such as the Federal Aviation Administration, talk about their jobs and answer question.
