To the Editor:
While I share Councilman’s DelGiudice concerns about pedestrians using the city crosswalks, will painting them green really improve safety?
I say no. Crosswalks could light up white, green or yellow; ultimately it comes down to being alert. If drivers are texting, talking on the cell phone or distracted behind the wheel, accidents will still occur. Heidi Gudmundson, a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation, affirmed, “national research has indicated that there is really no associated safety benefits for making crosswalks a different color.” With that being said, Councilman DelGiudice, why not try to advocate for harsher laws and fines against texting or push to make it a fine for talking on cell phones while driving?
Danny Hall
Warwick Republican Chairman

Mr. Danny Hall< were you texting, talking on your cell or drinking last Fall when you rear-ended that car on Warwick Ave. in front of Dockside, causing the car to roll over? I applaud Councilman DelGiudice for his effort to improve safety in Warwick.
I applaud my husband for writing this letter to the editor. Being a representative for any Ward is challenging. A councilman has the privilage to enact changes for us and our neighborhood. Two heads are better than one. Neighbors' opinions, both supportive and otherwise, would be very helpful to Mr. DelGiudice and help him gain perspective to others' ideas. It is our duty as citizens to be there for one another and better our community- together. Danny wants our Councilman to do the best possible job he can in representing our area as I am sure we all are. There may be other possible options other than painting crosswalks is all Danny was stipulating.
As for Betty1, I am ashamed of your comment. My husband hydroplaned infront of Dockside Seafood and instead of rear-end impact to several cars which braked suddenly. He was hit broadside on the passenger's side of the vehicle. He and the older gentleman, of the other vehicle, were thankfully not seriously injured.
I am proud to be a Ward 5 resident and look forward to changes in the neighborhood.
Councilman’s DelGiudice is just another idiot we have in are city council that is just trying to justify that he is doing something. Is this not the same bonehead that made it illegal to feed coyotes because that is the most important thing we should be worried about.
Yes, the only way to prevent an accident is to get people to pay attention. But with the cops talking while driving and texting while driving, it will be pretty tough to enforce the law.
As I see it repaint the crosswalks pink with purple polkadots for all I care, it will be another waste of money that should be spent in a better place.
Oh, and Betty, mabey you should put the phone down and get your facts straight before you make these kinds of accusations!
Mr. Hall comment that "why not try to advocate for harsher laws and fines against texting or push to make it a fine for talking on cell phones while driving?" really shows his in experience in the political process. Driving laws assocaited with texting and talking on cell phones should be enacted by the General Assembly at the state level so they are uniform all over Rhode Island.
This letter is simply another attack by Mr. Hall to keep his name in the news. Where is the out rage Mr. Hall on the last bugdet approved by the Republican Mayor and Democrate council that jacked up the car tax using evaluations that are totally inappropriate and property taxes so all employees in city hall can get a raise.
You represent the problem with the Republican's in Warwick. You act like Democrates - tax & spend.
To Warwick Tax Payer, I pretty sure we all know the Genreal Assembly deals with laws on the State level. That doesn't mean the Councilman can't advocate for tougher fines with our State Reps. As for the budget, I can't do anything about it. I wasn't for it and felt we could've cut a little more or level funded the city side. I've always put my phone number and email out here but yet no phone calls or emails. I'll say it again, feel free to email me or call me.
