William A. Whalen, 79, died June 20, 2012, at the West Side Regional Medical Center, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Born in Providence, a son of the late John and Mary (McKenna) Whalen, he had been a Warwick resident before moving to Florida 35 years ago. Mr. Whalen first worked as a prop man for WJAR. He later became a truck driver for over 30 years and had worked for Marwell Trucking, W.L. Mead Trucking and Delfarno Trucking. While living in Florida, he had worked as a property manager for various hotels in the Ft. Lauderdale area. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Carbone and Janice A. Kennedy; a granddaughter, Kelly Connelly and three great-grandchildren, whom he adored; a sister, Evelyn Poppa. He was the grandfather of the late Kerri Lynn Connelly-Meneses; and brother of the late Frederick Whalen, Thomas Whalen, Bernadette Marks and Mary Hanley.
His funeral service will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Interment with military honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Friday 10-11 am. Information and condolences, visit TheQuinnFuneralHome.com.
