Gunnery Sgt. Richard Headley Jr., a U.S. Marine for 15 years, is seeking donations in the form of appliances, games, clothes, or equipment in an effort to support U.S. troops and their families.

On Saturday, June 7 and the following day, Headley and a team of U.S. servicemen are holding a yard sale at 404 Squantum Drive in Warwick.

Along with Cpt. Jordan Blashek, Gunnery Sgt. Alan Fowler, and civilian Kurt Fowler, Headley is accepting any and all donations for the yard sale. Donations for the yard sale can be dropped off at his address, 404 Squantum Dr. Sale proceeds will go directly to the Semper Fi Fund. This fund is a nonprofit set up to provide immediate financial support for injured and critically ill service members and their families.

Serving as chief organizer for this event, Headley said, “As a member of the Semper Fi Fund Team, my goal is to raise $10,000 and to promote the continuing needs of our nation’s injured service members.”

As of Thursday, Headley and his team have raised more than $7,200, mainly from family and friends giving small donations over time.

In addition to the yard sale, Headley mentioned that there would be a bake sale, with hot dogs and brownies available for free to anyone who has made a monetary donation to the Semper Fi Fund. Also, there will be baskets, gift cards, and a raffle, with all ticket revenue going to the Semper Fi Fund. The possible winnings include a one-night stay at the Holiday Inn at the Crossroads.

All of this fundraising leads up to the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. On Oct. 26, more than 800 supporters of the Semper Fi Fund will run the full 26.2 miles. Headley’s team, “Rich and Jordan’s Marine Corps Marathon Team,” is running to raise funds and awareness for injured or critically ill service members.

Headley is accepting donations for the yard sale until June 1, and is accepting monetary donations for the Semper Fi Fund until Sept. 1.
