Michaela Yerkes was recently named a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

As a member, Michaela will have access to scholarships, academic competitions, as well as personalized recognition and entrance to special NSHSS events. Founder and chairman of NSHSS, Claes Nobel made the announcement Aug. 8 in Atlanta, Ga.

He said, “On Behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Michaela has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence. Michaela is now a member of a unique community of scholars – a community that represents our very best hope for the future. Michaela was excited to hear in June that she was going to be inducted into the NSHSS.

She will begin her junior year at Toll Gate. Her favorite subjects are the sciences and social studies.

“I like to learn how things came to be,” Michaela said.

At the school she is an active member of the French Club. She is also a Girl Scouts Ambassador, the highest rank before graduation. She is also a part of Youth Safety at the Warwick Gun Range and a carrier for the Warwick Beacon.

She said, “It felt amazing to hear I would be a part of the society. I never expected to be recognized for all the hard work I do for school.”

James Lewis, the president of NSHSS, said, “Our vision is to build a dynamic international organization that connects members with meaningful content, resources and opportunities. We aim to help students like Michaela build on their academic successes and enhance the skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global community.
