Warwick’s Librizzi receives prestigious lacrosse honor

Posted

Warwick resident and 2016 St. Raphael graduate Zachary Librizzi is this year’s Rhode Island recipient of the Bob Scott Lacrosse Award.

The award is presented to one student-athlete lacrosse player in each state. It recognizes players who go above and beyond in service for their team, school and community. Each player exemplifies the fundamentals of lacrosse, works hard to improve his game and is a leader both on and off the field.

Librizzi, a senior, captained the St. Raphael/Providence Country Day lacrosse team this spring, compiling 23 goals and dishing out 13 assists from the midfield position. For his efforts, Librizzi earned a Second Team All-Division nod and a spot in the statewide all-star game, where he totaled a goal and three assists.

Off the field, Librizzi completed 315 hours of community service over a four-year span at St. Raphael. He was selected as the Rhode Island nominee for the Prudential Spirit Community Scholarship Award, representing the state in Washington, D.C., won President Obama’s Service Award for community service hours completed and received the Cataract Fire Scholarship for the state. Librizzi, also a hockey player at St. Raphael, was selected for the Rhode Island Reds Chuck Scherza Unsung Hero Award as well. He’ll accept that award in August.

Librizzi will attend Johnson and Wales University in the fall, where he will study criminal justice and continue his lacrosse career.
