A boost for robotics
The local Air Force recruiting office recently presented Warwick Schools with $6,000 to support robotics programs at Toll Gate and Vets High Schools and Gorton Junior High. “The Air Force is sponsoring STEM programs,” said recruiter Ssgt. Shanna Tenney of activities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. She said the Air Force is seeking recruits to fill positions that require electronic and mechanical skills. The funds, explained Toll Gate technology teacher Dennis Dubee, will support the schools’ robotics clubs enabling them to purchase materials and pay entry fees in the state competition. On hand for the presentation was Kris Robinson, who teaches at Winman Junior High, and two of his students who are involved in the First Lego League.
