A pledge to work for the constituents of Dist. 30

To the Editor:

I would like to thank the people of Warwick who supported me throughout this election. I love this city, and I’m very excited and eager to work hard every day for our community.

Over the past year, I met so many wonderful neighbors who shared with me their stories. They shared their hopes and dreams, and also their concerns. Many are struggling to make ends meet, are facing tough challenges because they don’t have adequate health care, or work multiple jobs so they can send their kids to college. Others want to protect our environment, especially our beautiful bay.

I look forward to working with the members of the Rhode Island Senate on legislation to help improve the lives for all of us in District 30. This includes working to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, protecting our seniors and veterans, and striving for new green technology projects that create good paying jobs and keep the money we all spend on energy here in the state. I also look forward to working for paid sick time to the 41 percent of people that do not receive a single paid sick day, working to ensure tax fairness to support working families, and fighting for pay equity for women and people of color to ensure equal wages for equal work.

I thank Senator Walaska for his many years of service to our city. I applaud his work on renewable energy and protecting the environment. I am also thankful for his work on providing coverage for off-label medicines, and I wish him much health and happiness in the future.

I plan to set up ongoing meet-ups where residents of District 30 should feel free to stop in to discuss what is on their mind, or just stop in to say hello. You can find me on Facebook at JeanineCalkinRI and on Twitter

@JeanineForRI where I will also post information regularly.

Thank you again to all the voters. I will always remember I am here to work for you. Jeanine Calkin

Warwick

That is what a representative republic is based on. At least until you get to office and find the wheelbarrows for taking as much cash as you can before you get indicted.
