AAA ends temporary services to nonmembers during DMV computer transition

Posted

The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles has reminded Rhode Islanders that AAA Northeast ended its temporary program for non-members seeking to complete motor-vehicle registry transactions on July 31.

In May, the Division and AAA Northeast jointly announced their agreement allowing non-members to complete certain DMV transactions at AAA offices around Rhode Island. AAA agreed to process DMV transactions for non-members as the division readied its operations for its computer system launch in July.

The eight AAA offices in Rhode Island process approximately 20 types of DMV transactions in a long-standing partnership with the state, including license and registration renewals. AAA allowed nonmembers to complete those transactions for a limited period to assist the DMV through its computer system launch period. The non-member service period ends today.

“We appreciate the willingness of AAA Northeast to stand by us through this critical period in our history by extending DMV transaction services to all Rhode Islanders,” said Walter R. “Bud” Craddock, administrator of the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles in a statement. “AAA has proven through the years to be a valuable partner for the Division. We expect this relationship to benefit Rhode Islanders for many years to come.”
