Bonnie Abols is holding her 75th birthday party this Saturday for 1 to 5 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Church Hall in Conimicut. Don’t bring her a gift, but be sure to take along your dancing shoes.
Leave it to Abols, who is deaf, to use her birthday as a means of raising funds for the deaf cancer survivors support group that meets at Miriam Hospital.
A two-time cancer survivor herself, Abols founded the support group for the hearing impaired about three years ago and continues to head it today. The group averages about 15 members. The group’s next meeting will be held Sunday, Jan. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hurvitz room next to the hospital gift shop.
Saturday’s birthday party will include food as well as games. Joe Vono who will be playing his drums will provide music. As Abols points out there will be dancing. Donations to the support group are appreciated. All are welcome.
