Warwick native Nicolle Potvin worked with Senator Michael McCaffrey to light up the State House in blue and green, the characteristic colors of the National Eating Disorder Association, during Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Potvin, who herself battled anorexia, raised $750 through GoFundMe to cover the cost of the lights, a NEDA Walk at the University of Rhode Island, and her speaking event at the State House. Potvin is pictured in the center wearing a white dress and surrounded by other eating disorder awareness supporters from a Rhode Island College sorority. The State House will be lit in NEDA colors until March 4. The Beacon’s full story on Potvin can be seen online or in the February 2 edition. (Submitted photo)

It cost the taxpayers nothing and brought attention to a worthy cause. Great job Senator Michael McCaffrey!
Happy Spring everyone.

Richard, unfortunately it did cost the tax payers money. The Rhode Island State House refused to light the State House for charity. I had to personally fundraise and gather money from my friends and family in order to make this happen. It was really difficult to even get anyone to listen to me. I had to have Senator McCaffrey get me in touch with the right people in order for someone to listen. It was quite a tough project to accomplish but I'm happy that it finally did!
