Almost 7 gallons

Brad Mellen of the Warwick Water Department was one of scores of Warwick employees who turned out for yesterday’s blood drive at the Warwick Police Department. This is the 55th pint Mellen has donated in 20 years. He said he especially feels good having been able to give for his grandson, Ethan Silver, who at the age of 7 has undergone four open-heart surgeries. The drive at the station is held six times a year. Since it started 22 years ago, 1,000 have donated a total of one gallon of blood and 146 have donated five or more gallons. Donors of five or more gallons were presented certificates yesterday by the RI Blood Center.
