Alton W. Sprague

Alton W. Sprague, age 86, of Sweetfern Road, Warwick, passed away on Sunday, December 10, at Roberts Health Centre in North Kingstown. He was the husband of the late Barbara J. (Dunne) Sprague.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Henry F. and Ivah F. (Tripp) Sprague, he was a life-long Warwick resident. Mr. Sprague was employed as a manager for Engelhard Corporation in Warwick for over twelve years, retiring in 1991. He was previously the owner of S & R Alloys in Warwick. He was an avid boater and a fan of local and NASCAR racing. Although Alton was a man of a few words, he inspired those around him, - most of all his four children, with his work ethic and integrity.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda M. Eichenfeldt of Warwick and Susan I. Fitch of North Kingstown; two sons, Stephen W. Sprague of Seekonk, MA and Douglas F. Sprague of Lebanon, Ohio; five grandchildren, David Sprague, Lacie Koehler, Stephen Fitch, Thomas Fitch, and Matthew Sprague; and three great-grandchildren, Savannah, Scarlet and David. He was the brother of the late Wilson T. “Bill” Sprague and Russell D. Sprague.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, at 10 a.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 17, from 2 - 5 p.m. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
