American Alarm acquires 2 RI security firms
American Alarm & Communications recently announced it has completed the acquisition of Electronic Alarm Systems (EAS) and Phoenix Fire Alarm & Communication, firms that provide life-safety and security services to homes and businesses throughout Rhode Island.
The Warwick-based companies will continue to operate from their current location and pursue new opportunities to grow their residential and commercial life-safety and security services.
Thomas Mitchell, co-owner and general manager of EAS and Phoenix, will remain as a consultant to the companies during the first six months of transition, and then plans to retire from the business. Henry Guzeika Jr., co-owner and son of EAS founder the late Henry Guzeika, will stay on full-time as general manager. “We are looking forward to beginning this new chapter in the life of our companies,” Guzeika said. “By combining the strengths of these companies into a unified team, we will be able to better serve our customers.”
EAS and Phoenix serve several thousand residential and commercial customers across Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. There will be no disruption of security or monitoring services because of the acquisition. They will operate as divisions of American Alarm & Communications Inc. and maintain a 24-hour service presence at their current Warwick location.
American Alarm & Communications has had a significant presence in Rhode Island for more than 20 years. In the early 1990s, American Alarm acquired Electro Systems of Fall River, Mass., which served numerous customers in the Ocean State, with a concentration in the Newport area.
Before completion of these acquisitions, John Mabry, a national leader in the security systems industry and a 17-year member of American Alarm’s advisory board, died in a tragic auto accident in Georgia. With his deep industry knowledge and sense of business strategy, he played a key role working with senior management and on the planning and negotiations that ultimately led to a successful outcome in these acquisitions. He was a great source of information and guidance to both buyer and seller.
Founded in 1971, American Alarm & Communications Inc. is a leading independent security systems integration firm in New England, with more than 150 employees serving more than 18,000 residential, commercial and public sector customers in 13 states. The company owns and operates a 24-hour Security Command Center, or the U.L. Certified Central Station, in Arlington, Mass., which is dedicated to monitoring customers' security systems. From its offices in Arlington, Auburn and Randolph, Mass., or Advanced Signal division, and Windham, N.H., American Alarm protects all classes of property, from single-family homes to multi-site banks and retail operations, to major public and historic venues such as the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston and the New Hampshire State House. The acquisition of Electronic Alarm Systems and Phoenix Fire Alarm & Communication of Warwick will add a new division and branch office for the company to serve customers in southern New England.
