Avedisian unanimously endorsed by city GOP
Danny Hall, chairman of the Warwick Republican City Committee, announced that Mayor Scott Avedisian was unanimously endorsed for re-election in a vote Wednesday at his campaign headquarters located in the lower level of Airport Plaza.
Avedisian was first elected mayor in February 2000 and re-elected in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010. Prior to his election as the 15th mayor of the city, Avedisian was a five-term councilman from Ward 1. He has also served as the president of the Rhode Island League of Cities & Towns and is a graduate of Pilgrim High School and Providence College. He has a Master’s degree from Roger Williams University, an Honorary Doctorate from New England Tech, as well as completed numerous programs at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
One of the inaugural Rodel Fellows at the Aspen Institute, Avedisian was appointed by Governor Lincoln Chafee to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority’s Board of Directors. Additionally, he was appointed by Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts to her health care reform task force, and served on the Transition Team to General Treasurer Gina Raimondo.
