Bishop Tobin’s courageous stance
To the Editor:
I am writing this letter in response to Ms. Becker’s letter titled, “Tobin on Mandela,” from Dec. 12.
Nelson Mandela is arguably the “greatest social justice leader of our time.” However, as Bishop Tobin stated Dec. 9, “Much to admire about Nelson Mandela, but not all praiseworthy.” Mandela’s position on abortion is definitely not praiseworthy, as Bishop Tobin so courageously stated.
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said, “If abortion is not wrong, nothing is wrong.” The fundamental issue of life is the number “1” God-given right to all!
Without the right to life, not choice, Mandela’s good works of racial justice, world peace, human rights and economic equality are good in themselves, but morally flawed and tarnished badly by his lack of respect for life. Without life, all these other issues don’t matter at all!
Thank you Bishop Tobin, for having the courage to state the truth, even when it is not popular today!
