The Warwick Police Department released the following information on Tuesday evening pertaining to an arrest made in the case of the murder of John "Jack" Fay:
"On February 5, 2019 Michael Soares was charged with First Degree Murder for the 2013 homicide of John “Jack” Fay in Warwick City Park.
This arrest was the culmination of years of effort covering hundreds of leads by our Detective Division. Throughout the past five-plus years, the Warwick Police Department has remained committed to finding Jack’s killer.
In addition to the work of our agency, this arrest would not be possible without the assistance from various local, state and federal agencies, to include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the RI Department of Health, and the RI Attorney General’s Office.
While an arrest has been made, no information on specific investigative methods used or evidence in the case is being released because this remains an active investigation.
Soares is being held overnight at the Warwick Police Department, and he will be transported to the Third Division District Court located at 222 Quaker Lane for arraignment tomorrow, February 6, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.
A press conference will be held at Warwick Police Department on Wednesday February 6, 2019, notice of time to follow."
Soares is a 33-year-old resident of Pawtucket. The Beacon will update this story as more information becomes available.
