Bring a Buddy drive aims to increase blood donations at critical time

Those who donate blood at one of the Rhode Island Blood Center’s five fixed donation sites in August will have a chance to win tickets to some of New England’s top sporting events.

The “Bring a Buddy” promotion is designed to encourage people to donate blood by asking donors to help recruit their friends, relatives or co-workers to donate blood with them. Each donor and their “buddy” will have their names entered into a drawing for a four-pack of tickets for the “buddies” to go to a Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins or Boston Celtics game. The names will be drawn Sept. 1.

Donors can “Bring a Buddy” and be entered to win at any of the Blood Center’s fixed donor centers: 405 Promenade St., Providence; 688 Aquidneck Ave., Middletown; 14 Woodruff Ave., Narragansett; 615 Greenwich Ave., Warwick; and Pavilion Plaza, 2168 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket. Consult the Blood Center’s website at for specific hours and days of operation and to make an appointment. Appointments can also be made by calling 453-8383.

“Bring a Buddy” is a campaign run during the critical summer months, when schools and many individuals schedule vacations. The Rhode Island Blood Center is charged with collecting up to 280 pints of blood each day to meet the needs of those hospitalized within the community.
