Tri-City Elks

The car show is up and running on Thursday evenings starting at 5 p.m. The DJ will be spinning music, the Tiki Bar will be open, and the grill will be sizzling. Come join in on the summer fun. Motorcycles are welcome.

Country Line Dancing classes will resume in the fall on Monday evenings, and Zumba classes will resume on Tuesday evenings.  Both classes will be charging $8 per person. Dates will be announced.

East Greenwich Historic Preservation Meeting

Steamship travel was revolutionary in the 19th century and the fastest way for people to travel and transport goods. Astrid Drew will describe the bustling traffic of luxury passenger ships and commercial transports that once plied the waters of Narragansett Bay at the June 18 meeting of the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society. Astrid is the director of the 3-year-old Steamship Museum at 2500 Post Road in Warwick. The new facility is operated by the Steamship Historical Society of America. Astrid will show illustrations of these early steamships from the museum's collection. The program at the Old Jail, 110 King Street, East Greenwich, is free and open to the public. Go With the Flow Painting

Go With the Flow Painting for Adults and Seniors will be held Wednesdays, June 20, 27, July 11 and 18 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road, Warwick. This four-week class offers a great opportunity for adults and seniors to let go of their everyday worries and explore and experiment with their creative expression. Instructor Patty Martucci will lead participants through a new intuitive painting exercise each week. Leave your stress behind and join in on some pure creative fun. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held June 21 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway, at 6:30 p.m. (right near Pilgrim High School). Second Annual Steak Fry

The American Legion and Screamin’ Eagles will hold their second annual steak fry and poker run in honor of our local veterans and their families to benefit Shields Scholarship Fund June 24 at 662 West Shore Road in Warwick. New England Amputee Association Group Meeting

A New England Amputee Association networking meeting will be held June 27 from 4:15-6 p.m. at Care New England Outpatient Rehab (formally Kent), 1351 South County Trail, Building 2 Suite 200A East Greenwich. The topic will be enhancing your vehicular mobility experience with guest speaker Robert Drucker from Mobilityworks. Alienated Grandparents Anonymous Meetings

If you're a grandparent who has been denied time and/or a relationship with your grandchildren, join the Rhode Island members of Alienated Grandparents Anonymous. Summer Art Camp For Kids

Summer Art Camp will be held July 9 to August 24. Kids ages 6-12 will have unique ways to explore their creativity this summer at the Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road. Register for trip to Foxwoods

The Cranston Senior Guild is planning a bus trip to Foxwoods July 11. The cost of the trip is $25 per person (make check payable to Cranston Senior Guild). The price includes roundtrip deluxe motor coach bus, free buffet or $10 food coupon to any restaurant at the casino, and $10 bonus slot play (bonus subject to change). Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 6 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Johnson Memorial Scholarships

Applications for the James V. Johnson Memorial Scholarships sponsored by JONAH Inc. are available for graduating seniors from Pilgrim, Toll Gate and Bishop Hendricken High Schools. Students must be Warwick residents. Scholarships are $1,000 and on average five scholarships are awarded annually. U.S. Masters Swimming Program

The Kent County YMCA has a Masters Swim Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 a.m. and Sundays from 5-6:45 p.m. starting in May and running through August.  This aquatic fitness program, for anyone aged 18 or older, offers encouragement, camaraderie and support. Learn drills, improve stroke technique and proper breathing. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
