Tri-City Elks

Toys for our neighborhood kids! Come and enjoy good food buffet style. Music provided by Shermer High Saturday, Dec. 8. Doors open at 7 p.m. Please bring a new unwrapped toy and a non-perishable item for food baskets as your entrance fee. Toys will be donated to children in our community as well as some families that we will be donating a food basket to for the holiday.

Country line dancing continues from 7-9 p.m. Monday evenings with Lori Enos. Cost is $8 per person. Come kick up your heels and have some fun.

Rotary Meeting

The annual Conimicut Christmas Tree Lighting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at Donovan Park (corner of Beach and West Shore). Following the lighting and music by the Winman Junior High Chorale, everyone is invited across the street to Friends Way for refreshments and Santa.

Warwick Women’s Club

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Warwick Women’s Club will hold its monthly meeting Dec. 11 at 6:30 pm at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center in Warwick. Gorton Luncheon

Christmas Concert

St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, is presenting a Christmas concert Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. The concert features the combined choirs of St. Kevin, St. Rita and St. Timothy parishes, with a special appearance by the Woodbury Union Church handbell choir using bells that were rescued from their devastating fire on Nov. 21. The evening is sure to be a delight with a visit from Santa and familiar music of the season, including a medley of movie favorites. Admission is free but a free will offering will be taken up for the Woodbury Union Church Fire Fund.

Warwick Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold open registration for their mid-season fall-winter programs Dec. 15 from l-3 p.m.  in Thayer Arena and Dec.16 from 1-3 p.m. in Warburton Arena (back rink) 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Their learn to skate group lessons taught by professional instructors will begin on Jan. 5, 2019 and end Feb. 24, 2019 (9 weeks). Meat Raffle

West Bay Anglers are holding a meat raffle every Saturday through March 16, 2019 at the Warwick Firemen’s Club, 750 Warwick Ave. Doors open at 12 noon, raffle starts at 1:30. Tickets are six for $5.

Bingo Night

Bingo night is held at St. Kevin Church Hall, 333 Sandy Lane, the first Saturday of the month. Doors open at 5 p.m., Bingo starts at 6. Join in for fun, prizes and refreshments.

Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company Rental

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 4 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. U.S. Masters Swimming Program

The Kent County YMCA has a Masters Swim Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 a.m. and Sundays from 5-6:45 p.m. starting in May and running through August.  This aquatic fitness program, for anyone aged 18 or older, offers encouragement, camaraderie and support. Learn drills, improve stroke technique and proper breathing. Cornerstone Church Food Pantry

Pilgrim Senior Center

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Warwick Historical Society

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The Norwood Neighborhood Association Crime Watch Committee is looking for residents to be part of a crime-prevention program. If you would like to be part of this important initiative, email to norwoodna@verizon.net or call NNA at 785-0616. Minimal time is required but it could save you a lot of headaches in response to a crime.
