Tri-City Elks

St. Patrick's corn beef dinner will be held March 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a performance by the Damhsa Irish Step Dancers. Tickets are $15 per person. You must get your tickets in advance; no tickets will be sold at the door.

Meat raffles on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. There will be four tables loaded with meat and prized. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.  Proceeds will be donated to Rosemary's Wish Kids.

Ocean State Orchid Society Meeting

The Ocean State Orchid Society will have a meeting March 9 at 1 p.m. at the Rocky Hill Grange, 1340 South County Trail, (Rte. 2), East Greenwich (enter through door at rear of building). Club member Kyle Fiedler will lead this meeting, entitled Growing Orchids in LECA as a medium.” LECA, or light expanded clay aggregate, is an aggregate made by heating clay to a high temperature in a kiln. Members are asked to bring in a plant that needs re-potting and the club will supply the LECA. There will also be the usual Grow and Show table and raffle. The public is welcome.

West Bay Chorale

The West Bay Chorale will be having their annual pop-up coffeehouse March 9 at 3 p.m. This will be at their new location, St. Kevin’s Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. They have invited some outstanding local talent to perform Latin American Folk songs. Members from the chorale will be performing a variety of songs, poetry and dance as well.

American Legion Riders Post 2 Meat Raffle

The American Legion Riders, RI State Capter Post 2, will be holding a meat raffle at the American Legion Post 2, 2 Legion Way, West Warwick, March 9 at 7 p.m. There will be four rounds of tables and in honor of St. Patrick’s Day the last raffle for each table will be a basket of ingredients for a corned beef dinner.

Academic Decathlon Volunteers Needed

Rhode Island Academic Decathlon is actively recruiting volunteers for their March 10 state competition. Volunteers evaluate the speech and interview skills of high school students or assist with exams and event management. The competition is hosted by CCRI in Warwick, and most volunteers serve from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Training is provided on the day of the event. Phantom of the Opera

Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announces that preschool registration for the 2019/2020 school year has started. The Title I preschool program is a half-day program held at Oakland Beach Elementary School. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Lippitt, Hoxsie, Park and Norwood areas.  Parents are required to attend three sessions per year for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew.
