Tri-City Elks

Meat raffles on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. There will be four tables loaded with meat and prized. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.  Proceeds will be donated to Rosemary's Wish Kids.

Country line dancing continues from 7-9 p.m. Monday evenings with Lori Enos. Cost is $8 per person. Come kick up your heels and have some fun.

Yoga Classes with Lorraine Blanchard. The Vinyasa Yoga flow will embody strength, balance, and flexibility. Please bring your own Yoga mat. Cost is $6 per person.

Warwick Women’s Club

The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Warwick Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center in Warwick. Bette Cleveland from Thirty One Gifts will be having a fundraiser for the club at the meeting. You can also shop online and all online purchases will be sent directly to your home or any address you prefer. The Warwick Women's Club is a civic/community-oriented club that provides funds and/or goods for local organizations such as the Norwood Boys' and Girls' Club, Project Undercover, House of Hope, and RI Mentoring. There are many activities that we handle throughout the year, i.e. Pinwheels for Prevention of Child Abuse, thank you cards and Valentine cards for veterans, and activities relating to domestic abuse. The Conimicut Village Association will conduct its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. March 12 in the St. Benedict’s Parish Hall on Transit Street. All Conimicut residents and business owners are invited to attend.

Oakland Beach Association

The monthly meeting of the Oakland Beach Association will be held March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 340 Oakland Beach Avenue. Note that this is a one-time change of date from the usual Thursday night to Wednesday night. All Oakland Beach residents are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

A luncheon for Gorton alumni classes1941-1955 will be held March 13 at 1 p.m. at Top of the Bay in Oakland beach. Lunch choices are scrod, chicken parm or chicken marsala. Reception for Col. McCartney

Retired Col. Stephen M. McCartney, who served as chief of Warwick Police, will be honored at a reception March 14 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza. Tickets at $25 are available at the Greenwood Credit Union, the Crowne Plaza, Central RI Chamber of Commerce, Warwick Beacon and Police Headquarters.

Chili Cook-off

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, will host a chili cook-off March 16 at 6 p.m. $10 for adults (kids 10 and under free) gets you chili tastings, corn bread, beverage and dessert. Call 737-3127 for tickets (no tickets at the door).

Corned Beef Dinner and Auction Fundraiser

Southern RI 4-H Fair will hold a corned beef dinner as a fundraiser event March 16 at 5 p.m. at the Metcalf School, 30 Nooseneck Hill Road, Exeter. It's not just a dinner; an auction and a penny social will be held during this event as well. Advanced tickets only; corned beef and cabbage are $12. Meat Raffle

West Bay Anglers are holding a meat raffle every Saturday through March 16 at the Warwick Firemen’s Club, 750 Warwick Ave. Doors open at 12 noon, raffle starts at 1:30. Tickets are six for $5.

Free Lunch

As part of a community outreach program, Spring Green Memorial Church, 1350 Warwick Ave., is offering a free lunch of hot dogs and assorted sandwiches, chicken soup, chips and assorted desserts to neighbors in the community March 17. Each guest is welcome to receive one grocery bag of food from the pantry. For more information call the church office at 463-8328.

WWII Education Center Virtual Tour

On March 17 documentary filmmaker Tim Gray will give a virtual tour of the WWII Education Center he founded on Main Street in Wakefield. The Education Center/Museum displays Gray's collection of WWII artifacts acquired during 40 years of collecting. One of his most important acquisitions is a steel relic from the boat deck of the USS Arizona, which was sunk in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The illustrated program is sponsored by the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society. It begins at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the East Greenwich Police Station on First Avenue. Light refreshments will be served. Parking is free and the building is handicap accessible. It is free and open to the public. 

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held March 21 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway, at 6:30 p.m. (right near Pilgrim High School). This will be the last planning meeting for their breakfast on April 6. If you would like to volunteer for the breakfast, order tickets (reservations required), donate a raffle item or bake a breakfast item for the pastry table or any information on any events call Brenda at 467-2692. Quarter Auction  

Leukemia and Lymphoma candidate for Woman of the Year Marguerite Morris is hosting a quarter auction March 22 at Knights of Columbus, 475 Sandy Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m. $10 for 3 paddles. Raffle and 50/50 tickets also available. Light food provided. No outside alcohol or beverages. Bar will be open. Phantom of the Opera

Have you always wanted to see “The Phantom of the Opera?” How about dinner before, and transportation to the show? No worrying where you are going to park and how far you will have to walk to PPAC. The Kent County YMCA is offering a bus trip to the PPAC to see “Phantom of the Opera,” which also includes a buffet dinner before the show, on March 28. The cost for YMCA members is $80 and the cost for those that are not current members of the Kent County YMCA is $90.  Email Dom Doiron at ddoiron@gpymca.org.

Fish Count

Buckeye Brook Coalition is looking for volunteers for this year’s Direct Fish Count in conjunction with RI Fish and Game. Training will be March 28 from 5-6 p.m. or March 30 from 10-11 a.m. Location is lower parking lot of Knights of Columbus on Sandy Lane. Warwick. Requirements: 10 minutes at most once a week, at a time of your choosing, to observe water temperature, water depth, and count how many river herring you observed. The count will run from April into May. Returning surveyors just need to contact Jennifer so she can add you into the schedule. This is a very easy opportunity to help collect valuable data that allows the fishery councils to make decisions on fishery management. If you have any questions contact jennifer.brooks@dem.ri.gov.

Flea Market Vendors Wanted

Ss. John and James Parish, 17 St. John Street, West Warwick, is hosting a Flea Market on May 4 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. They are looking for vendors to rent tables, $20 for a 6-foot table-indoors and $15 for a 6-foot table outside (no food vendors). Apply for Boys and Girls State 2019

The American Legion Boys State and the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State will take place June 16-21 at St. Andrew's School in Barrington. The course is on the workings of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. Students form their own political parties, formulate party platforms and conduct spirited campaigns for public office. All high school juniors are encouraged to apply. Scholarships are available. Expenses are paid for by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 4 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
