Tri-City Elks

Meat raffles on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. There will be four tables loaded with meat and prized. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.  Proceeds will be donated to Rosemary's Wish Kids.

Country line dancing continues from 7-9 p.m. Monday evenings with Lori Enos. Cost is $8 per person. Come kick up your heels and have some fun.

Yoga Classes with Lorraine Blanchard Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. The Vinyasa Yoga flow will embody strength, balance, and flexibility. Please bring your own Yoga mat. Cost is $6 per person.

Meadowlark Seniors

The Meadowlark Seniors, a social club, holds weekly meetings every Thursday at the St. Kevin Parish Hall, 333 Sandy Lane, at 1:30 p.m. The meetings are followed by coffee and refreshments. After refreshments, an activity follows. All seniors are invited to attend a meeting and see what they are all about. Scheduled meetings may be canceled due to inclement weather.

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 5 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. The group calls themselves the “Rocky Point Pacers.” Call Cindy at 497-5656 for more details.

Toll Gate National Honor Society

Toll Gate High School will hold its National Honor Society installation April 23 at 6 p.m. in the Robert J. Shapiro Cultural Center. Greetings will be presented by Miss Candace Caluori, principal of Toll Gate High School. Teacher of the Year will be announced and Book Awards will be presented. Forty-four juniors will be introduced and inducted into the National Honor Society and 36 seniors will receive their certificates and honor cords. A reception will follow in the cafeteria.

Warwick Municipal Retirees Association

Debt Clinic

Warwick Rotary

On April 25 The Warwick Rotary Club will host all of their 2019 grant recipients. The Warwick Rotary Club gives out over $20,000 each year back into the Warwick community through this grant program. The Warwick Rotary is a globally-minded membership club that inspires positive changes within the community. They meet Thursdays at noon at The Radisson Hotel, 2081 Post Road in Warwick. Buckeye Brook Cleanup

The Buckeye Brook Coalition 20th Earth Day Clean Up will be held April 27 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. The event will start at the Knights of Columbus, 475 Sandy Lane. Volunteers are required to register by signing a waiver of liability form by an adult. Once organized, participants will be directed to several offsite locations through the area for Earth Day cleanups. They are in need of persons who can act as team captains in advance of the date. Dress weather appropriate (sturdy shoes and gloves). Insect repellent suggested for ticks. Pizza and water served after event. Spaghetti Fundraiser

Peace & Providence Community Outreach Center will hold a spaghetti fundraiser at Lakewood Baptist Church, 225 Atlantic Ave., April 27 from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults, $5 children 3-10, under 3 free. Ticket includes pasta, meatballs, salad and baked chicken. There will be raffles.

Car Wash

Are the spring birds using your car as target practice? Then let the boys of BSA Troop 1 Conimicut wash it clean. Come down to the Pilgrim Senior Center on April 27 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Any donation accepted. See you then. And thank you for your support.

Smorgasbord

A smorgasbord will be held April 27 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 9 New London Ave., West Warwick with a continuous service from 5-7 p.m. Donation is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and children.

Girls Scouts ‘Read to Grow’

Girl Scouts of Southern New England will host a Read to Grow membership event April 29 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the council’s office, 500 Greenwich Ave., Warwick. All girls are invited to read a book, plant seeds and enjoy a snack. For more information, email nmcallister17@outlook.com.

Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place May 1 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Cranston residency is not required. Plan on coming for a fun afternoon.

Flea Market Vendors Wanted

Ss. John and James Parish, 17 St. John Street, West Warwick, is hosting a Flea Market on May 4 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. They are looking for vendors to rent tables, $20 for a 6-foot table-indoors and $15 for a 6-foot table outside (no food vendors). Annual Conimicut Spring Fling Fundraiser

The Annual Conimicut Spring Fling Fundraiser is scheduled for May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the St Benedict's Parish Hall. Tickets are $29 per person ($12 for children 4-11) and include a buffet catered by Cassarino's Restaurant (chicken marsala, pasta, meatballs roasted potatoes, salad, dessert, coffee, tea), DJ entertainment, cash bar, raffle baskets, silent auction and door prizes. Buy tickets online at www.conimicut.org, at Davies' Service Station (1008 West Shore Road) or by calling 524-8404. All proceeds go towards the flowers and flags displayed along West Shore Road from May through September.

Iggy's Doughboy Dash

Iggy’s Doughboy Dash will take place May 5. Registration opens at 8 a.m., race starts at 9:30. This is a family-friendly timed 5K Run or Walk to raise money for the A-T Children's Project. Historic Cemetery Ceremony

The Pawtuxet Rangers will participate in a ceremony May 5 at 2 p.m. at Cranston Historic Cemetery #36 on Park Avenue in Cranston. The Rangers, Cranston Historic Cemetery Commission, Sons of the American Revolution and Society of Colonial Wars will be some of the participants. The cemetery has had a refurbishment and the group will recognize four Revolutionary War veterans, one of whom was amongst the first officers on the Continental Navy. There will be a new veterans grave marker unveiled and an interpretive sign.

Chamber Chorus Concert

The Chamber Chorus of the Rhode Island Children's Chorus (RICC) will give a concert at Greenwood Community Church, 805 Main Ave., Warwick, May 5 at 2 p.m. The chorus is the premier auditioned group of high school singers from the more than 200 members of RICC. The ensemble will be performing an impressive, varied repertoire, including everything from spirituals to classical works and contemporary choral gems. The chorus regularly tours and performs at high-profile invitational events and will have just returned from a special performance at Carnegie Hall. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Gorton Lucheon

The monthly luncheon for Gorton High School classes 1941-1955 will be held May 8 at 1 p.m. at Sam's Inn, 2227 West Shore Road. Lunch choices are scrod, chicken marsala and chicken parm. Cost is $20. Greater Warwick Lions Scholarship

The Greater Warwick Lions Club announces its Academic and Community Achievement Award eligibility program. They will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship this year available to Warwick high school seniors residing in Warwick. The Greater Warwick Lions Club is a chartered member of Lions Club International and dedicated to the concept of community service. This award takes into account financial need and academic achievement as well as demonstrated community service of the applicants. The application submission deadline is May 15.

Scholarships available

Applications for the James V. Johnson Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by J.O.N.A.H., Inc. are now available. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who reside in Warwick School District 2. District 2 includes Wards 4, 5 and 6. Deadline for applications is May 15. The committee aims to award three $1,000 scholarships. Call Beverlee Sturdahl at 739-2219 for applications.

National Senior Health and Wellness Day

Visit the Kent County YMCA May 29 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for this free Community Event in honor of National Senior Health and Wellness Day. There will be free blood pressure screenings, participate in a chair yoga class or Tai Chi, join the book club, learn about the knitting club, and so much more. Apply for Boys and Girls State 2019

The American Legion Boys State and the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State will take place June 16-21 at St. Andrew's School in Barrington. The course is on the workings of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. Students form their own political parties, formulate party platforms and conduct spirited campaigns for public office. All high school juniors are encouraged to apply. Scholarships are available. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to anyone 14 years of age or older interested in joining the corps.

New Counseling Program Available

If you are experiencing a substance use problem with alcohol or drugs or a substance use problem coupled with a mental health problem such as depression or anxiety, a new program at Thrive Behavioral Health (formerly known as The Kent Center) may be right for you. Thrive is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling substance use disorders and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Green Airport Military Lounge Seeks Volunteers

The Rhode Island Military Organization (RIMO) Military Lounge at T.F. Green Airport is seeking volunteers to staff the lounge. Open 12 hours every day, the primary goal of the lounge is to provide a welcoming place for military service members, veterans and their families to relax and regroup during their travels. Approaching six years in operation, nearly 15,000 visitors have passed through the lounge doors. Yet, it’s the dedicated volunteers who keep the lounge open, clean, stocked and comfortable while providing a welcome smile and warm greeting to each visitor. Volunteers are asked to work four-shifts and may select their own work schedule but are asked to dedicate a minimum of four hours per month. Also, volunteers enjoy free parking at the airport. A great opportunity to give back to the community and thank our active duty and veterans for their service. All volunteers are required to fill out the RIMO application, acquire a background check, and attend a short training class. New volunteers can begin the process by contacting the RIMO office at 921-4393.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. TOPS #38 East Greenwich

Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Greenwich Bay Women’s Club

Aphasia Conversation Group

Grief Support

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Wanted: Norwood Crime Watch Participants

The Norwood Neighborhood Association Crime Watch Committee is looking for residents to be part of a crime-prevention program. If you would like to be part of this important initiative, email to norwoodna@verizon.net or call NNA at 785-0616. Minimal time is required but it could save you a lot of headaches in response to a crime.
